A Qantas flight from Rome to Perth was cancelled on Saturday after bedbugs were reportedly discovered on the aircraft.
The issue came to light after passengers on the 17-hour Italy–Australia journey complained of insect bites. Following an inspection, Qantas arranged a deep cleaning of the affected aircraft, particularly the economy-class seating areas.
The airline apologised for the disruption, covered affected passengers’ hotel expenses and arranged alternative flights within 48 hours.
This incident recalls a similar case in 2017, when British Airways apologised to a family who reported being bitten by bedbugs on a flight from Vancouver to London.
The incident highlights the importance of aircraft cleanliness and passenger comfort in long-haul aviation.
