The road to development of the Boeing 737 MAX hit a major milestone recently, as construction for a new “e-cab” is underway. “An e-cab is an engineering flight simulator which gives you full fidelity. So a pilot can sit in the seat, can fly the airplane, and it feels like they are flying in a real airplane,” said Boeing Test & Evaluation 737 MAX e-cab project manager, Craig Standley.
E-cabs have become a valuable tool in the development, testing, and training of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The new 737 MAX e-cab will be outfitted with the latest flight deck displays that will be a part of the MAX. “This new display is actually an enhancement on the current 787 processing capabilities. So it gives us the ability to process more data, send more data to the pilots,” said BT&E 737 Chief Pilot Ray Craig.
The MAX e-cab, which can also serve as a Next-Generation 737 simulator, will be ready for limited testing later this year.
