Are aviation snips tin snips?

Aviation snips and tin snips are similar hand tools, but they have some differences. Both aviation snips and tin snips are designed for cutting sheet metal, but aviation snips are usually used for cutting curves and complex shapes while tin snips are generally used for straight cuts.

Aviation snips are typically made of stronger materials and have longer blades than tin snips, which makes them more suitable for cutting through thicker and harder materials like stainless steel or aluminum. They also have a spring mechanism that allows for easier cutting with less effort.

Tin snips, on the other hand, are usually smaller and lighter than aviation snips. They have shorter blades and are better suited for cutting thin sheets of metal or for making small, precise cuts.

So, while both tools can be used for cutting sheet metal, they have different strengths and are best suited for different applications.
